MITO LIVING began with two people on long and winding healing journeys. We are Dr. Lauren O'Donnell and Vivian Rosenthal, two self proclaimed Mitos who have spent years searching, learning, experimenting, and rebuilding our health.
Along the way, we immersed ourselves in circadian biology, mitochondrial health, nature, longevity protocols, detox regimens, nutrition, movement, breath, and the simple rhythms that help the human body remember how to heal. Now we want to share everything we have learned.
This winter, we are inviting a small group of people to join us in Nosara, Costa Rica to live, learn, and heal alongside us. Together we will practice the daily rituals that have transformed our own lives, from greeting the sunrise and spending time barefoot on the earth to ocean swims, nourishing food, breathwork, detoxification, and longevity practices designed to support vibrant health.
This is the very first chapter of MITO LIVING. Our prototype. An experiment in what becomes possible when people choose to live closer to nature, reconnect with their biology, and heal in community.
If you have been feeling called to slow down, return to the rhythms of the natural world, and explore a different way of living, we would love to hear from you. Tell us about yourself and if you would like to come stay for a month, a season, or to relocate here!

Whether you are joining us for a week, a month, or are looking to move to Nosara part-time or full-time, MITO LIVING is a place to reconnect with nature, restore your energy, gently detoxify the body, and support your innate capacity to heal, all in community.
Come into rhythm with the natural world to heal.
Immerse yourself in a healing experience designed around the rhythms of nature. Our retreats weave together circadian living, light education, grounding, ocean immersion, nourishing food, nervous system regulation through the Frequency Breathwork Method, movement, somatics, restorative practices, gentle detoxification, and longevity protocols to support mitochondrial health and create the conditions for lasting transformation.
Experience what it feels like to live in an environment intentionally designed for health and vitality.
Stay in one of our MITO LIVING residences and immerse yourself in a lifestyle that supports healing from the moment you wake until you fall asleep. Wake with the sunrise, spend your days connected to the ocean and nature, nourish yourself with clean food, reduce your exposure to modern stressors, and restore your body through movement, community, and deep rest. Every detail is thoughtfully designed to help you recover, recharge, and thrive. As our community grows, so will our collection of homes and long term residences, creating opportunities for longer stays and deeper transformation.
Healing is not a destination. It is a way of living.
Our educational programs range from one week immersions to month long intensives and multi month mentorships. Learn how to optimize your light environment, sleep, nutrition, movement, home, technology, and daily rhythms through the lens of mitochondrial health, circadian biology, and living in harmony with nature. Alongside this, you will learn the Frequency Breathwork Method to regulate your nervous system, build resilience, and cultivate practical tools that support lifelong health and vitality.
Every detail of a MITO LIVING residence has been thoughtfully designed to reduce unnecessary stress on the body and support your natural biology.
Most homes today are filled with invisible inputs that quietly drain our energy. At MITO LIVING, we have reimagined the living environment to work with your body instead of against it.
From the moment you wake until you fall asleep, you will be immersed in a home designed to support rest, recovery, and vitality.
Our residences include
Our biology evolved in relationship with nature, not separated from it.
MITO LIVING exists to help you return to that relationship.
The word MITO comes from mitochondria, the tiny structures inside nearly every cell that turn food and oxygen into the energy that powers life.
They shape how we recover, adapt to stress, and age. Inspired by the work of physicians, researchers, and educators exploring mitochondrial health and circadian biology, MITO LIVING is a health and longevity community built on a simple belief.
When we change the environment around our cells, we change the way we live.
While science continues to evolve, one truth remains. Nature is one of our oldest teachers.
Morning sunlight is one of the most powerful environmental signals for the human body. Beginning your day outdoors helps reinforce healthy circadian rhythms that influence sleep, hormones, metabolism, mood, and energy.
Every morning begins with light.
Deep healing happens during sleep. We help create environments that support restorative rest through darkness, evening routines, reduced artificial light, and alignment with natural rhythms.
Healing happens every night.
Food is information. We emphasize nutrient dense, minimally processed foods that nourish the body while supporting metabolic health.
Simple. Seasonal. Whole.
The human body evolved outside. Ocean water, trees, fresh air, natural movement, changing seasons. Nature is not just beautiful. It is part of our biology.
We are not separate from it.
Movement is medicine. Walking, strength, mobility, somatics, play, swimming, surfing, breath. Movement tells your cells that life is happening.
Life is happening.
Stress changes biology. Breath changes stress. Through guided breathwork and nervous system regulation, we help create space for recovery, resilience, and presence.
Breath changes stress.
For many people, time barefoot on natural surfaces is a meaningful daily ritual. On sand, grass, or earth, slowing down outdoors becomes part of a restorative lifestyle.
Slow down outdoors.
Learn how to reduce WiFi and other electromagnetic exposures in your home, and how to limit blue light at night, which can disrupt sleep and the rhythms that support metabolic health.
The greatest upgrade is subtraction.
We chose this stretch of Costa Rica deliberately.
Not every place on Earth offers the same conditions for healing. If you have followed the research on magnetic decline, light, and nnEMF, you already know the shortlist is short.
Central America is one of the rare regions where year-round UVB, strong magnetism and the Pacific Coast converge. It is also located on the Nicoya Peninsula, one of the world's original Blue Zones, known for exceptional longevity.
Near the equator, sunlight is strong and consistent. UVB remains available throughout the year, while sunrise and sunset occur at nearly the same time each day, providing the body with an exceptionally stable circadian signal.
The Earth's magnetic field helps support the body's natural electrical charge, mitochondrial function, and overall health. While many places on Earth are experiencing magnetic decline, Costa Rica is one of the exceptions. Magnetic declination is close to zero, and Costa Rica has five active volcanoes, all within 200 kilometers of Nosara. The nearest, Rincon de la Vieja, is approximately 100 kilometers away.
Nosara has little light pollution, minimal industry, no widespread 5G infrastructure, and a fraction of the electromagnetic density found in modern cities. Barefoot living and direct contact with the Earth are part of ordinary life, not practices you need to schedule.
A small coastal town surrounded by jungle and protected land, Nosara has no high-rise development and no major city for hours.
If you already understand why these conditions matter, the location needs little explanation. If you do not yet, it is enough to know that the human body evolved within a specific set of environmental conditions, and fewer places continue to provide them.
Ocean-horizon sunrises. Jungle at your back. Warm water for swimming and surfing. Tropical biodiversity in every direction. Outdoor living throughout the year.
A vibrant, established wellness community filled with people who have already chosen a more natural way of living and understand why you are choosing it too.
High-quality local grass-fed meat and eggs, freshly caught fish, and organic fruits and vegetables grown nearby, supported by biodiverse and regenerative farming.
Life here is less dependent on the systems many people are trying to step away from. Food comes from farms you can visit, not distant supply chains. Days are shaped by natural light rather than schedules imposed upon you.
Nature becomes the practitioner.
Dr. Lauren O'Donnell is a medical doctor and anaesthesiologist, with a first-class degree in neuroscience and a Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists. She spent seven years working in the UK's National Health Service, building her career at the heart of conventional medicine, and believed this was what helping people get healthy looked like.
However, when faced with her own severe health crisis, she realised the conventional route was making things worse. She was forced to teach herself what her education had never covered: circadian and quantum biology, the role of light, water, and magnetism in human health, and the connection between suppressed emotion, the nervous system, and physical disease.
Her recovery came through this work: morning sunlight, grounding, cold water, local whole foods, connection with nature, community, nervous system regulation, and importantly, feeling the emotions she had long suppressed. Today she feels healthier than she ever has, and her cycle returned after 14 years.
A fundamental part of this journey was Lauren's relocation to Nosara, Costa Rica, one of the few remaining places on earth genuinely suited to deep healing. Having navigated the move herself two years ago, she understands in practical detail what it takes to get there, live there, and heal there.
Lauren now practices as a decentralised doctor, helping people rebuild their health and supporting those who, like her, choose to leave the systems that kept them unwell and relocate to an environment where the body can heal.
Vivian Rosenthal is the founder of the Frequency Breathwork Method and founder of Diamond Rose Sanctuary, a retreat center in Connecticut. Over the last decade, Vivian has guided more than ten thousand people through transformational healing experiences designed to reconnect them with the innate intelligence of their bodies. As a certified breathwork facilitator and Kundalini yoga teacher, her work integrates nervous system regulation, embodiment practices, and detoxification protocols to help people reconnect with the innate intelligence of their bodies.
Like Lauren, Vivian's path into this work began through her own severe health challenges. After navigating Lyme disease, mold toxicity, severe gut dysbiosis, heavy metals, and complex immune dysfunction, she found herself searching beyond conventional approaches to understand what creates true health. That journey led her to study circadian biology, mitochondrial health, nutrition, detoxification, nervous system regulation, and the profound role that breath, nature, and community play in human healing.
Originally trained as an architect with degrees from Brown University and Columbia University, Vivian approaches healing through the lens of systems thinking, understanding that our health is shaped not by one intervention, but by the environment we live in, the rhythms we follow, and the choices we make every day. Through her work, she helps people reconnect with their bodies, regulate their nervous systems, and remember their own capacity to heal.
Throughout her career, Vivian has trained hundreds of breathwork facilitators and collaborated with researchers at FSU and Yale University to study the effects of the Frequency Breathwork Method on PTSD, anxiety, and wellbeing. At MITO LIVING, she leads the breathwork, embodiment, and nervous system regulation practices, helping people integrate the science of health into a way of living that feels both natural and sustainable.
We were never meant to do this in isolation. The people around us shape our nervous systems, our habits, and the rhythms we return to each day. Community is not an amenity here. It is part of the biology.
In Nosara, mornings are shared in the water and on the sand. Meals gather people at a single table. Movement, rest, and celebration happen together, the way they always have.
You are nature. And you are not alone in it.
Health is not something we manufacture. It is something we remember.
Powered by Light. Fueled by Nature.
